John Grandy Died : 2 / 1 / 2004

Marshal of the Royal Air Force Sir John Grandy GCB GCVO KBE DSO (deceased) Commanded No.219 Sqn flying Blenheims then No.249 Sqn flying Hurricanes during the Battle of Britain before being shot down and injured in September 1940. Returning to duty, he rose through the ranks to eventually become Marshal of the Royal Air Force in 1971, the year of his retirement. He died on 2nd January 2004.
