Chris Cartledge

Sub-Lieutenant Chris Cartledge DSC RN Joining the Fleet Air Arm in 1942 he was posted to 1842 Sqn flying Corsairs from HMS Formidable. In 1944 he took part in operations against the German battleship Tirpitz and later that year sailed to the Far East to form part of the British Pacific Fleet, attacking Japanese held targets. At the Battle of Okinawa he flew low-level attacks to suppress activity at kamikaze staging airfields.
