The Model 1866 fired a 44 Rimfire cartridge and was the first rifle to bear the iconic Winchester name. It saw widespread use among frontiersmen due to its low cost and readily available ammunition. International sales were also made to The Ottoman Empire for use in the Franco-Prussian war along with limited use in a select few other European nations.
